Efficacy and Safety in the Use of Pipeline Vantage Shield Stent versus Pipeline Flex Shield Stent in the Treatment of Patients with Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms: A Multicenter Study.

Summary: Brain aneurysms are weak, bulging spots in blood vessels that can burst and cause severe damage. To treat them without open surgery, doctors often use "flow diversion" stents—mesh tubes that divert blood away from the bulge, allowing the vessel to heal. A recent study in Colombia compared two versions of the "Pipeline" stent: the older "Flex" model and the newer "Vantage" model. Both feature a special coating designed to improve compatibility with the body. The results showed that the newer Vantage stent was significantly better at completely sealing off aneurysms after one year (97% success rate) compared to the Flex stent (80%). However, the older Flex stent had a slightly better safety record regarding complications.
