Efficacy and Safety of VMAT-2 Inhibitors and Dopamine Stabilizers for Huntington's Chorea: A Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, and Trial Sequential Analysis.

Summary: Huntington's disease is a condition that causes unwanted, jerky movements called chorea. Doctors use two main types of medicines to help calm these movements: VMAT-2 inhibitors and dopamine stabilizers. Researchers looked at 7 studies with over 1,400 patients to see which medicines work best and if they are safe. They found that VMAT-2 inhibitors do a great job at reducing the jerky movements. On the other hand, dopamine stabilizers did not show much benefit. The good news is that both types of medicines are safe and do not cause many bad side effects compared to taking a dummy pill.
