Efficacy of rotavirus vaccines in Indonesia: A review of genotype distribution and impact.

Summary: Rotavirus is a major cause of severe diarrhea in young children in Indonesia. To fight this, the country started a national vaccine program in 2022. This review looked at the different types of rotavirus spreading in Indonesia and how well the vaccines work. The vaccines available can stop severe diarrhea about 18% to 77% of the time in places with high death rates. The government chose a specific vaccine called ROTAVAC for its program. However, the review suggests that the best choice might be a "pentavalent" vaccine, which covers five types of the virus at once. It is also very important to keep tracking the virus to make sure the vaccines are working well.
