Enterovirus circulation in the WHO European region, 2015-2022: a comparison of data from WHO's three core poliovirus surveillance systems and the European Non-Polio Enterovirus Network (ENPEN).

Summary: Did you know that polio isn't the only virus that can cause paralysis? A recent study looked at virus data from 48 countries in Europe over eight years. They found that other viruses in the same family, called "non-polio enteroviruses," are actually a major cause of paralysis. In fact, these other viruses caused more deaths than polio did during this time! Right now, global health systems are great at tracking polio but miss a lot of these other dangerous viruses. The study suggests we need to track all of these viruses better to keep people safe.
