Evaluation of salusin-β in paediatric patients with chronic kidney disease or hypertension.
Summary: Heart problems can sometimes start when we are just kids. Scientists recently looked at a tiny protein in the blood called salusin-β. They think this protein might act as a warning sign for future heart issues. To test this, doctors checked the blood of kids who have kidney disease or high blood pressure, and compared them to healthy kids.
The results showed that kids with kidney disease had much higher levels of this protein. Also, kids who had higher levels of salusin-β had slightly stiffer blood vessels, which is a sign of stress on the heart. This means measuring salusin-β might help doctors spot heart risks early in kids with kidney problems, though more research is needed to be completely sure.
