Experiences and insights from parents of children with temporary feeding tubes.
Summary: Having a child who needs a feeding tube can be scary for parents. A recent study asked 44 parents about their experiences. Most parents were happy with the care their child received, especially when the tube was removed quickly (in less than 5 days). However, parents whose children went home with the tube faced more struggles and stress. Many parents said they wanted to be more involved in making choices and caring for the tube. The study shows that doctors and nurses need to give parents better support and teaching to help their kids heal safely at home.
