Experiences and perceptions of pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus: A qualitative study.
Summary: Finding out you have gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy) can be scary. A recent study in Cyprus talked to 10 pregnant women with this condition to see how they felt. The women shared that they felt highly stressed and didn't get enough information or emotional support from their healthcare providers. They had to deal with big feelings, figure out how to manage their blood sugar, and lean heavily on their families for help. Above all, these women expressed a huge, overwhelming need to learn more about their condition. The study shows that pregnant women need better education and emotional support, especially from midwives, to help them feel empowered and have a safe, healthy pregnancy.
