Exploring oral microbiome in oral squamous cell carcinoma across environment-associated sample types.
Summary: Mouth cancer (also known as oral squamous cell carcinoma) might be linked to the tiny germs living in our mouths. Scientists looked at over 1,200 mouth samples from different studies to see if these bacteria change as cancer grows. They found that germs in cancer tissue look a lot like germs in nearby normal tissue, but they are very different from harmless mouth bumps. The best part? They created a new test using simple mouth swabs that can accurately spot mouth cancer just by looking at the germs. This could make catching mouth cancer early much easier and less painful!
