FDA approves treatment for debilitating itch in rare liver disease
Summary: The FDA has officially approved a new medication called Lynavoy (linerixibat) to treat a severe, deep-body itch caused by a rare liver disease. This condition, known as primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), mostly affects women between the ages of 45 and 65.
Up to 89% of people with PBC experience this terrible "internal itch" that often ruins their sleep and daily life. Lynavoy works by blocking bile acids from building up in the body. In clinical trials, patients who took the daily pill saw fast, lasting relief from their itching and finally got better sleep.
