FDA Grants Fast Track Designation to Pelareorep in KRAS+ MSS Metastatic CRC

Summary: The FDA just gave a special "fast track" pass to a new cancer treatment called pelareorep. It is used to treat a specific type of advanced colon and rectal cancer (KRAS-mutated MSS colorectal cancer). Pelareorep is actually a natural human virus that is designed to target and attack cancer cells.

In a recent study, patients who took this virus along with other standard cancer drugs lived much longer without their cancer growing. In fact, it doubled or even tripled the time patients lived compared to standard treatments (living 27 months versus 11.2 months). This fast track status means the FDA will help speed up the review of this treatment so it can reach the patients who need it much faster.
