Feminists hate “toxic” beauty standards but still fall victim to them

Summary: Do you ever call out toxic beauty standards on social media, but still feel bad about your own body? You aren't alone. A new psychology study found that embracing feminism helps women spot and fight back against unrealistic beauty ideals in the media. However, it doesn't magically stop them from feeling insecure about their own looks.

Researchers tested over 400 women by showing them pictures of "perfect" models versus diverse, everyday women. Women with strong feminist beliefs got angry at the fake, idealized images and wanted to change society's rules. But surprisingly, looking at those same images still made them feel unhappy with their own bodies.

The takeaway? Having a strong political identity changes how you view the world, but unlearning the pressure to look perfect is a totally different, harder battle.
