Fertility restoration in cytoplasmic male sterile tomato via knockout of either DNA polymerase I or Topoisomerase I, two nuclear-encoded organellar DNA replication genes.
Summary: Imagine trying to grow tomatoes, but the plants can't make pollen. This is actually a clever trick farmers use to create special hybrid seeds. But eventually, they need the plants to make pollen again to grow fruit! Scientists found a cool new switch. By turning off just one of two specific DNA genes (called Pol I or Top I), they can give the tomato plants their pollen back. This makes growing hybrid tomatoes much easier and better for farmers.
