First Ethnopharmacological Report Published on Tanzanian Medicinal Plants Against SCD
Summary: Researchers just published the first-ever study on medicinal plants used in Tanzania to treat sickle cell disease (SCD). By interviewing traditional healers, they discovered over 100 different plants used to help manage the condition. The most common plants belong to the bean family, and healers usually boil the roots or leaves to make a medicinal drink. Many of these plants are already known to reduce pain, fight infections, and even stop blood cells from sickling. This exciting research could pave the way for new, natural medicines to help patients with SCD!
