First Participant Enrolled in NIH-Funded Access for All in ALS Consortium
Summary: A big new study called the ALL ALS Consortium just signed up its very first patient! This project is paid for by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and brings together scientists from all over the country to fight ALS. ALS is a serious disease that causes muscle weakness and affects about 30,000 people in the U.S. and 500,000 worldwide.
By collecting data from people with ALS, people who might be at risk, and healthy volunteers, researchers hope to share this information openly to find better treatments. Two main hospitals—Mass General in Boston and Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix—are leading the charge across 35 different clinics. This first patient sign-up is a huge, exciting step forward for science and the search for a cure!
