Fixed Duration Therapies Non-Inferior to Continuous Treatment in Previously Untreated CLL

Summary: Good news for people fighting a type of blood cancer called Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). A new study shows that patients might not need to take their medicine forever. Doctors compared taking a daily pill continuously versus taking a combination of medicines for a set amount of time and then stopping.

The results? Taking the medicine for a fixed time worked just as well as taking it forever! After three years, about 80% of patients in all groups were doing well without their cancer getting worse. Even better, the patients who stopped their medicine had no detectable cancer cells in their blood at the end of their treatment. Taking a break from medicine gives patients a much-needed rest and a better quality of life.
