Frequency of autoimmune diseases in myasthenia gravis: a systematic review.

Summary: Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a challenging condition affecting muscle strength, but a comprehensive medical review reveals it often doesn't come alone. By analyzing 50 years of data across 25 different studies, researchers found that approximately 13% of MG patients suffer from a second autoimmune disorder. The most common companion condition is autoimmune thyroid disease. The study highlights that women and patients testing positive for specific antibodies (anti-AChR) are at the highest risk. This suggests that doctors treating MG should actively monitor for these additional immune system issues to ensure the best possible care.
