G-LERP/miR-374i-b Attenuates IRI and Suppresses Hepatocellular Carcinoma Progression.
Summary: Liver transplants can save the lives of people with severe liver cancer. However, the surgery itself can sometimes hurt the liver when blood flow stops and starts again. This damage can actually make the cancer come back faster. Scientists found a tiny piece of genetic material in the body, called miR-374b-5p, that makes both the liver damage and the cancer worse.
To fix this, they created a special medicine delivery system to block this bad genetic material. When they tested it in mice, this new treatment protected the liver during surgery and shrunk the cancer size by more than half! This could be a great new way to help liver transplant patients heal better and stay cancer-free.
