Global burden, subtype, risk factors and etiological analysis of enteric infections from 1990-2021: population based study.
Summary: Stomach bugs and gut infections are a huge problem worldwide. A new study looked at global health data from 1990 to 2021 to see how these illnesses affect people. The good news is that fewer people are dying from them today than in the past. However, they still cause a lot of sickness, especially in women, young children, and older adults. Unsafe drinking water is the biggest risk factor, and a germ called rotavirus causes the most harm. Poorer areas suffer the most. We need better water sources and new plans to protect people from these dangerous infections.
