Global Health Funding in the FY 2027 President’s Budget Request

Summary: The President's proposed budget for 2027 suggests massive cuts to global health programs. The main State Department health budget would drop by $4.3 billion. Instead of having separate funds for diseases like HIV, malaria, and polio, they will be combined into one general fund. The budget completely cuts funding for family planning, reproductive health, and the World Health Organization (WHO). Instead of funding the WHO, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will take over its duties to protect Americans from global diseases. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) also faces a $5 billion cut.
