Summary: Millions of older adults have type 2 diabetes, which can increase the chance of getting Alzheimer's disease. Doctors wanted to know if two newer types of diabetes medicines—called GLP-1s and SGLT2s—could help protect the brain. They looked at the health records of over 90,000 people. The results were very good! People taking either of these newer medicines had a much lower chance of getting dementia compared to people taking older diabetes drugs. Both medicines worked equally well at keeping the brain healthy. This means treating diabetes with these newer drugs might also protect against Alzheimer's.
