HDP Exposure Linked to Increased Cardiovascular Risk in Adult Offspring

Summary: Did your mom have high blood pressure when she was pregnant with you? A new study shows that this might affect your heart health as an adult. Researchers looked at data from over 266,000 people. They found that adults whose moms had high blood pressure during pregnancy are more likely to have high blood pressure themselves. They also have a higher risk of heart problems and stroke.

For daughters, the risk is even more personal: if their mom had high blood pressure during pregnancy, the daughters have a 72% higher chance of having it too, and a 90% higher chance of getting preeclampsia when they have their own babies. Knowing your mom's pregnancy history can help you and your doctor keep an eye on your own heart!
