Health Watch: Memorial Day safety tips for you and your family

Summary: Memorial Day is right around the corner! If you are planning a fun weekend outside, Dr. Sara Andrabi from Baylor College of Medicine has a few easy tips to keep your family safe and healthy.

First, protect your skin by wearing loose, breathable clothes, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Second, stay hydrated! Drink water every 15 to 20 minutes and try to avoid alcohol and sugary drinks, which can actually dry you out faster. Third, practice food safety. Keep raw meat separate, use a meat thermometer, and don't let perishable foods like potato salad or cut fruit sit out in the heat. Finally, listen to your body. If you feel dizzy, tired, or get a headache, find some shade and cool down right away.
