High prevalence and multifactorial risks of sarcopenia in knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Summary: Do you have knee pain from osteoarthritis? A new major study looked at over 13,000 people and found a hidden problem: muscle loss, also known as sarcopenia. About 1 in 4 people with knee arthritis also suffer from severe muscle loss. The worse the knee pain gets, the higher the chance of losing muscle. Women, people with diabetes, smokers, and those who don't exercise regularly are at the highest risk. The good news? Doctors can screen for this early. By staying active and catching muscle loss soon, patients can protect their knees and live a better, healthier life.
