Honeybee colony soundscapes: Decoding distance-based cues and environmental stressors.

Summary: Honeybees are super important for our food and nature, but pollution and chemicals in the air can confuse them. Scientists listened to the buzzing sounds inside beehives to see how bees tell each other where to find food. They used smart computer programs to decode these sounds and figure out how far away the food was.

When the scientists added chemicals to the air, things changed. One chemical, like the stuff in nail polish remover (acetone), confused the bees and made it hard for them to find food. But surprisingly, another chemical (ethyl acetate) actually helped them land better! Listening to bees can help us understand how to protect them from bad air and keep our environment healthy.
