How to Choose the Measurement Methods for Cage Subsidence Following Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion?
Summary: After neck surgery where a small spacer (called a cage) is put in the spine, doctors need to check if the cage sinks into the bone over time. This sinking is called "subsidence." Doctors use X-rays to measure this, but there are three different ways to do it, and they weren't sure which was best. This study looked at X-rays from 105 patients to compare the three methods. They found that measuring the "middle segment height" (called MSH) is the most accurate and reliable. Most importantly, the MSH measurement matches up best with how the patient is actually feeling and healing. Because of this, doctors should use the MSH method to check their patients.
