How to Manage Severe Atopic Dermatitis of the Feet

Summary: Eczema (atopic dermatitis) doesn't just happen on your arms and face—it can attack your feet, too! Your feet get hot, sweaty, and rub against your shoes, making them the perfect target for an itchy flare-up. Things like plastic shoes, tight sports cleats, and even the dye in your colored socks can irritate your skin.

To keep your feet happy, wear breathable white socks made of cotton or bamboo, and take off your sweaty sports shoes as soon as you finish playing. If your feet do break out, try soaking them in lukewarm water mixed with baking soda or Epsom salt. After soaking, use the "soak-and-seal" trick: rub on a plain, fragrance-free lotion and put on clean socks to trap the moisture. If your skin cracks, crusts, or oozes, call a doctor right away, as it might be infected!
