HSCT Shows Curative Potential in Adults With Sickle Cell Disease

Summary: Stem cell transplants can actually cure adults with sickle cell disease! In the past, doctors thought only kids could get this treatment because adults usually had too much organ damage. But a new study from India shows that adults can handle it. Out of 14 adults who got the transplant, almost 80% survived, and those who had successful transplants had zero sickle cell pain crises afterward. Doctors say we should look at how healthy a patient's organs are, not just their age. It's time to give adults a real chance at a cure.
