Hundreds of US Hospitals at Risk of Shutting Down From Medicaid Cuts

Summary: A new report shows that 446 U.S. hospitals are in danger of closing or cutting important services because of planned Medicaid cuts under President Trump. These cuts are expected to take away about $1 trillion in federal funding over the next 10 years.

Hospitals that rely heavily on Medicaid and are already losing money are at the highest risk. If these hospitals close or shrink, patients will have to travel farther and wait longer for care. This delay can be very dangerous for people needing life-saving treatments. Services like mental health, maternity care, and chronic disease treatment could be the first to go. While the most at-risk hospitals are in states like California, New York, Illinois, and Washington, experts warn that rural areas and Black and Latino communities will likely be hit the hardest.
