Identifying brain functional subtypes and corresponding task performance profiles in autism spectrum disorder.

Summary: Autism is different for everyone, but doctors often treat it the same way because the outward signs look so similar. In a new study, scientists looked at the brain scans of over 1,000 people. They discovered that people with autism actually fall into two completely different "brain types"! Even though they act similarly on the outside, their brains are wired in opposite ways. A smaller test using eye-tracking showed these two groups also look at social clues differently. This means we shouldn't use a "one-size-fits-all" treatment for autism. Instead, treatments should be customized to fit each person's unique brain type.
