Impact of Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate on Active Surveillance for Prostate Cancer in Patients With Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms.
Summary: Men with slow-growing prostate cancer often choose to just watch it closely instead of rushing into surgery. This safe choice is called "active surveillance." But as men get older, their prostate can grow and make it very hard to pee. A special laser surgery called HoLEP can fix this peeing problem. Doctors looked at 310 men to see if having this laser surgery messed up their cancer watching. The good news? It actually helped! Men who got the laser surgery were much more likely to stay on their watch-and-wait plan instead of needing harsh cancer treatments later. The surgery also lowered their cancer marker levels. It is a very safe and helpful choice for men dealing with both issues.
