Increase in Labor Induction Rates Seen From 2016 to 2024

Summary: Between 2016 and 2024, a lot more pregnant women had their labor induced. This means doctors helped start the birth process instead of waiting for it to happen on its own. The number of induced labors went up from about 25% to nearly 35%. This big jump happened for mothers of all ages and all races. The largest increase was for babies born a little early, at 37 to 38 weeks. In almost every single state, induction rates went up. Today, more than one-third of all single babies are born this way!
