Increased calls to 988 hotline associated with a drop in suicides among young people, study finds
Summary: The new 988 suicide hotline is saving lives. A recent study found that suicides among young people ages 15 to 34 dropped by 11% after the shorter 988 number launched in 2022. States with the biggest jump in hotline calls saw the largest drops in suicide rates. While funding the hotline is still a challenge for many states, the federal government also promised to bring back a special menu option to help LGBTQ+ youth.
