Innovative staining for endoscopic screening of early esophageal cancer and precancerous lesions: a preclinical study.

Summary: Doctors use a special iodine dye to help find early signs of throat and food pipe (esophageal) cancer. But the standard dye, called Lugol's iodine, can burn the throat and cause allergic reactions. In this study, scientists tested a new, gentler dye called PVP-I. They tested it on human tissue samples and live mice. The results were great! The new dye worked just as well as the old one to spot cancer, but it was much safer and caused far less irritation. This new dye could make cancer screening much more comfortable for patients in the future.
