Interferon-Stimulated Gene Set Plus Complement Levels Accurately Detect Active SLE
Summary: Doctors have found a new, fast blood test to check if Lupus (SLE) is active in the body. Lupus can be tricky to track, but this new test looks at two specific genes (IFI27 and OAS1) and a blood protein called C3.
When these two genes are high and the C3 protein is low, there is a 96% chance that a patient's Lupus is actively flaring up. If the genes and the protein are both normal, the chance of an active flare is only about 3%. The best part is that this test is highly accurate even if the patient is already taking steroids or other strong medicines. This new tool will help doctors see exactly what is happening inside the immune system so they can give patients the best possible care.
