Intranasal overdose reversal formulations: a rapid review of available agents.
Summary: The opioid epidemic remains a critical public health crisis, but new tools are making it easier to save lives. While overdose reversal drugs were once limited to hospital injections, easy-to-use nasal sprays are now widely available. A recent review of FDA-approved medications for 2024 identified nine different intranasal options, including the well-known antidote Naloxone and a longer-lasting version called Nalmefene. Some of these life-saving sprays can even be bought without a prescription. Understanding these options empowers families and healthcare providers to choose the best defense against opioid overdoses.
