Investigation of the Effect of Secondary Traumatic Stress on Psychological Resilience in Emergency Nurses: A Systematic Review.

Summary: Emergency room nurses see a lot of trauma every day, which can cause them to experience "secondary traumatic stress." This means the emotional pain from their patients' trauma can actually rub off on them, making their jobs even harder. A recent review looked at five studies involving 234 emergency nurses to see how this stress affects them. The researchers found that these nurses do indeed suffer from high levels of stress. However, there is good news: nurses with higher "psychological resilience"—the ability to bounce back from hard times—feel much less of this stress. Building up this resilience could be the key to helping our emergency nurses stay healthy and keep doing their vital work.
