Iterum initiates wind-down after failure to offload antibiotic with sluggish sales
Summary: Iterum Therapeutics, an Irish drug company, is closing its doors for good. The company struggled to sell its only approved medicine, an antibiotic for urinary tract infections called Orlynvah. Even though it was a new type of pill, the FDA worried it might cause antibiotic resistance. With very low sales—making only $400,000 compared to $6.5 million in costs—and no buyers for the drug, Iterum ran out of money and options.
