Ixekizumab Improves Joint and Skin Outcomes in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis
Summary: A recent real-world study shows that a medicine called ixekizumab is highly effective for people with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). PsA is a tough condition that causes both painful, swollen joints and itchy, flaky skin.
Patients who took ixekizumab for a year saw major improvements in both their skin and their joints. In fact, about 19% of patients saw their disease almost completely go away. This medicine worked just as well as, and sometimes better than, other common treatments. The main takeaway is that doctors want to help patients get their overall quality of life back by treating the joints and the skin at the exact same time. Interestingly, the study noted that patients and doctors sometimes disagreed on exactly how much better the patient felt!
