Lactate metabolism orchestrates immune dysregulation in renal cancer: A multi-omics and causal inference study.
Summary: Kidney cancer can be very tricky to treat. Scientists recently discovered that lactic acid—the same stuff that makes your muscles burn after a hard workout—plays a big role in how this cancer grows. By looking at thousands of cells and genes using computers, they found that lactic acid changes how the immune system fights the cancer.
The researchers found six special genes linked to this process. Two of these genes make the cancer risk higher, and four make it lower. When they tested real kidney cancer tissues in the lab, the two "bad" genes were much higher than normal. This discovery is very exciting because it gives doctors brand new targets to aim for when creating future treatments for kidney cancer!
