Late Clinical Outcomes of Balloon-Expandable Valves in Small Annuli: Results From the PARTNER Trials.
Summary: For patients needing heart valve replacement without open-heart surgery (TAVR), having a smaller heart anatomy has historically raised concerns for doctors. They worried the replacement valve might not fit perfectly or that blood flow might remain restricted. However, a major study following over 1,300 patients for five years delivers excellent news. Patients with small valve openings did just as well as those with larger ones. The study confirms that using balloon-expandable valves is a safe, durable long-term solution, regardless of the patient's natural valve size.
