Leapfrog Group's latest safety grades have far fewer low scores since removal of non-participating hospitals

Summary: Have you ever checked your local hospital's "report card"? The Leapfrog Group just released their latest safety grades, and there is some surprising news. This year, there are way fewer failing grades! But it's not just because hospitals suddenly became perfect.

A federal judge ordered Leapfrog to stop giving bad grades to hospitals that refused to share their data. Because of this lawsuit, 450 hospitals were left out of the grading completely. You can't fail the test if you don't take it!

However, there is still plenty of good news for patients. For the hospitals that were graded, safety is actually improving. Dangerous hospital-acquired infections have dropped a lot—some by up to 50%! Hospitals are also doing a better job with medication safety and communicating with patients. So, while the grading system is changing, many hospitals are still working hard to keep you safe.
