Less Than Half of Women With Pregnancy and Opioid Use Disorder Receive Meds
Summary: A new study shows that less than half of pregnant women who struggle with opioid addiction get the right medicine to help them. This medicine is considered the best way to treat the addiction, but only about 40% of moms-to-be actually receive it. The study looked at over 900,000 pregnancies and found that women who also have chronic pain or other drug problems are even less likely to get the medicine. On the other hand, women with two or more mental health issues were more likely to get it. Doctors say we are missing big chances to help pregnant women get the safe, proven care they need.
