Life-Course Trajectories of Body Mass Index, Insulin Resistance, and Incident Diabetes in Chinese Adults.

Summary: Imagine tracking your weight for 20 years to see if you might get diabetes. Researchers did just that with over 2,300 adults. They looked at how people's weight changed over time and how their bodies handled insulin (the hormone that controls blood sugar). They found that being heavy doesn't always mean you are guaranteed to get diabetes. If you are heavy but your body still uses insulin well (called insulin-sensitive obesity), your risk for diabetes is much lower than if your body struggles to use insulin (insulin-resistant obesity).
