LightViz: autonomous light-field sensing, mapping, and assessment for distributed light pollution monitoring.

Summary: Too much artificial light at night is bad for nature and our view of the stars, but measuring it is hard. Usually, people use satellites or walk around with hand-held meters, which doesn't give a clear or detailed picture. To fix this, scientists created a new tool called LightViz. It uses automatic sensors to collect detailed data and creates real-time maps of light pollution. It even lets users test different lighting changes on a computer to see what works best. They tested LightViz on the beaches of Florida to help protect local wildlife and support a 20-year conservation program. This new tool makes it much easier for communities to track light pollution and make smart rules to keep the night sky dark.
