Long-term outcomes of drusenoid retinal pigment epithelium detachment in eyes with age-related macular degeneration.

Summary: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is an eye disease that can cause vision loss in older adults. Sometimes, small deposits called drusen build up under the retina and cause a blister-like bump, known as a pigment epithelial detachment (PED). Doctors looked at 11 patients (22 eyes) to see what happens to these bumps over time. They found that if the bump flattens out or "collapses" on its own, the patient's vision gets worse. If the bump stays the same, their vision stays about the same.
