‘Love Story’: Did JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Actually Meet Princess Diana?
Summary: In a recent episode of FX’s show Love Story, we see Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy's absolute horror as she learns about Princess Diana's tragic car crash on the news. The tragedy hit incredibly close to home. Not only had Carolyn just sat right behind Diana at a funeral in Italy, but both women shared the terrifying, constant stress of being chased by photographers.
Years earlier, in 1995, Carolyn's husband, John F. Kennedy Jr., actually had a top-secret meeting with Princess Diana in New York City. He wanted her to be on the cover of his political magazine, George. To avoid the swarms of paparazzi, JFK Jr.'s team thought about using silly disguises. Instead, they made a bold move: they just walked right through the hotel's front door while the press waited at the side entrance! Diana didn't end up doing the magazine cover, but JFK Jr. remembered her as being very tall, shy, and sweet, and they bonded over both having met Mother Teresa. Sadly, the constant, dangerous chasing by the press eventually led to Diana's death, leaving Carolyn deeply shaken by the deadly reality of their shared fame.
