Measurement Uncertainty and the Prostate Health Index-A Review.
Summary: Doctors use a special blood test called the Prostate Health Index (phi) to help check for prostate cancer. However, the final score of this test isn't just a simple measurement—it is calculated using a math formula based on several different lab results. Because of this math, there can be a little bit of error, or "uncertainty," in the final number.
This paper looks at the best way to figure out exactly how much error there might be. It turns out that using an official math method (called GUM) that looks at how the different parts of the test relate to each other gives a much smaller and more accurate error rate than older methods. By using this better math, doctors can trust the test results even more!
