Medical Student Perceptions of Psychological Safety in the Clinical Learning Environment.

Summary: Medical school can be intimidating, but it is incredibly important for students to feel safe enough to ask questions and make mistakes without fear of being embarrassed. This feeling is called "psychological safety." Researchers talked to 23 medical students to find out what makes them feel safe or unsafe while learning in hospitals and clinics. They discovered that supportive school rules and welcoming, inclusive leaders are the key to making students feel secure. The best news? Even if a student faces a strict or unhelpful supervisor, a great teacher or a strong support system from the school can step in, overcome the negativity, and keep the student feeling safe and ready to learn!
