Meeting of the Regional Network for the Prevention, Detection, and Response to Substandard and Falsified Medical Products gathers participants from 23 countries in the Americas
Summary: Health experts from 23 countries recently met in Brasilia to tackle a big problem: fake and low-quality medicines. When people take these bad medicines, they can get very sick, their treatments might fail, and it costs the healthcare system a lot of money. The problem is getting worse because of online shopping and complicated shipping routes.
To fight this, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) are working closely with these countries to stop fake drugs from reaching patients. The Americas' team is actually rated as the best in the world at doing this! To keep up the good work, the WHO will also release new rules in May to help track medicines better and keep everyone safe.
