Mental health needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in India: a literature review.

Summary: Living with HIV/AIDS in India involves much more than managing a physical virus; it carries a profound emotional and psychological burden. A recent systematic review highlights that People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) in India face significant mental health challenges, often triggered or worsened by deep-seated cultural stigma and discrimination. Despite these urgent needs, the study reveals a troubling gap: current government policies and support programs are insufficient to address the mental well-being of this population. To improve lives, the healthcare system must urgently integrate mental health support with standard HIV treatment.
